Homestudy packet is in the mail!

It seems appropriate that my devotion today led me to a video featuring Shelley Giglio and Jennie Allen discussing Genesis chapter 6 and Noah. Side note: If you are a lady and want a great devotion, check out this website and click "Equip." Actually, check out the entire website, it's great!

Anyway, the closing comment was "God is not limited to where you are." The context of the quote was a discussion of instructions from God. Sometimes they don't make sense at all. God is not in the business of being practical. He is God! He thinks big and tends to make a splash. When He tells you to do something, you do it.

The impractical brings such glory to God, even if it doesn't make sense to us. He receives glory when we are obedient (whether or not we are "successful" by human standards) or when He steps in to make something happen that only He can do. Story. Of. My. Life.

I don't know how many times God has told us to do something impractical by our standards. Then we follow Him and we know people look at us like we're nuts. They think we're crazy or making a bad decision. I'm not exaggerating. We've literally been asked, "Are you crazy?", "Are you sure you heard God right?" and even been told, "You're not making a good decision." While those weird looks and less-than-complimentary statements from others are unpleasant, we are responding in obedience to His commands. His logic is different than ours and we charge forward regardless of any obstacles, weird looks, knowing glances or judging comments.

Here we are again, with a seemingly impossible task that God has given us. Humbled by His provision and faithfulness.

Today we mailed our homestudy packet and a $2,200 check to Christian Adoption Services. Here's Baby V holding it for us before we handed it off to be mailed. She's a little excited about a new sibling, as is The Chlo. Last week they fought over who gets to sleep in the same room with our new child. Today when we mailed the package, I actually got teary.

Little pieces of this process make it feel more real and less like a dream that we've had for so long to make an orphan part of our family. Paying our first adoption fees. Receiving our first "non-family" donation when our friend Erin Leyen bought one of our puzzle pieces. These things just make it feel real!

Speaking of the puzzle... It's so ironic--Kevin and I sat at the table putting the pieces together to make sure we had them all. The countries were easy, but then we got to the ocean pieces. Have you noticed Earth has A LOT of water? Working the puzzle got so tedious. Very appropriate as we thought about this process. Certain parts of the adoption journey are easy, others are more difficult, and the whole thing requires a ton of patience. That is not a fruit of the Spirit I tend to possess...

Thinking about the next packet of forms to complete and the $5,350 check we have to send with it brings me back to the crazy question..."How and when will God provide?" My mind goes back to Noah and the fact that God is not limited to where I am and what I am capable of--thank goodness. What kind of God would that be anyway?

Thank you all for praying for us, following along with our process, and encouraging us. Special thanks to those who have given money to help us through donations or puzzle pieces! God is using you as His hands and feet in this process. God is revealing Himself to us daily through you all!
