About us

Fall 2015
Hi! My name is Emily and welcome to my blog! This is a picture of my sweet family... A family we are confident that God is not finished building!

How we met!! My husband, Kevin, and I met in college. We had a class together and he was smart enough to come up and talk to me one day after class!! ;) We were married right after we graduated in June of 1998! I cannot believe we have been married 16 years this past summer--time certainly flies. Kevin is a student pastor and we have been ministering to students together since before we were
married.

Why we want to adopt!! In 2004, we went on our first international mission trip to Recife, Brasil. We had never seen that kind of poverty and living conditions. We were shocked to hear how many orphans there were there and how little hope existed for them. On the plane ride home Kevy and I talked. On that trip, God spoke to each of us individually about adoption. We knew whether or not we ever had any biological children, God was calling us to adopt.

In 2006, we began looking into different adoption opportunities. We visited a couple of agencies. We just kept slowly moving along. In 2007, we decided the time was right. We began moving forward quickly. We picked an agency we had researched and set up a meeting with them. We had just become support-based missionaries to West Virginia. This clearly did not make the agency happy when they reviewed our income sources, and they said "no." We walked away so discouraged. We knew it was time to start our family. We had never even considered trying to have biological children because we knew God wanted us to adopt. Based on some medical issues, we had always thought having children would be particularly difficult for me. At that point, the call to start a family was so clear that we decided to try the "all-natural" way and see what happened.

Our family!!! In 2008, God gave us our first child, Chloe. Then, two years later, He gave us Violet. You may say, "Hey lady, you've got a couple of kids. Isn't that good enough?" I would respond, "Yes, it's more than enough, but it's not God's completed plan for our family." So, at the same time that I have two beautiful blessings running around me, I also know there is another child or two out there who also belongs in our family. We will pursue those kiddos the exact same way God pursues us--without rest! God has called all Christians to minister to widows and orphans. For some that means giving money, for others that means giving their time, and for us it means bringing orphans into our household and loving them as our own children.

Here we are 10 years from the first time God put this desire in our hearts. Our family is settled. We are no longer in transition and the door has finally opened. The time has come to start this process. Thank you for participating with us in our journey!
